IT Asset Management content
IT Asset Management content includes pre-defined artifacts and sample data that can be optionally installed with the IT Asset Management component.
This section describes the groups, workflows, actions, roles, person groups, reports, start centers, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), queries, job plans, measurement units, domains, ticket templates, classifications, response plans, communication templates, escalations, users, and reconciliation tasks that are provided by the best practices content for IT Asset Management. It also describes the predefined user names that are included with the best practices content.
- Classifications
It is strongly recommended that you apply a classification when you create an asset. A classification describes the overall asset type and is a common item shared among business processes. - Roles
This product ships with a set of built-in security groups, or roles, for asset management. Membership in a security group conveys a specific set of access rights to each of the product applications. A role is a common item shared among business processes. - Person groups
When you design an asset workflow, you can assign the steps in the workflow to either an individual user or a person group. If you make these assignments to person groups, the steps can be handled if an individual is unavailable when it is time to complete a step. You can also manually specify individual users or person groups; for example, you do so when manually assigning an Owner or Owner Group to an asset. A person group is a common item shared among business processes. - Groups and Users
When you design an asset workflow, you can assign the steps in the workflow to either an individual user or a group. If you make these assignments to groups, the steps can be handled if an individual is unavailable when it is time to complete a step. You can also manually specify individual users or groups; for example, you do so when manually assigning an Owner or Owner Group to an asset. A group / user is a common item shared among business processes. - Start Centers
A Start Center is a configurable page that gives you quick access to the tools and key performance indicators (KPIs) that you use most often. Each of the security groups that are defined for asset management has its own Start Center. When you log on to the product, the Start Center that is mapped to your primary security group is displayed. If you have multiple security group assignments, you can tab to secondary Start Centers. A start center is a common item shared among business processes. - Job plans
This product ships with a set of built-in job plans that can be used for a wide variety of assets that are processed in the data center. A job plan is a process-specific item that supports a particular business processes. - Workflows
This product ships with a set of built-in process workflows that can be used to direct a wide variety of assets that are processed in your data center. A workflow is a process-specific item that supports a particular business processes. - Escalations
This product provides numerous built-in asset management process escalations. Many of these escalations ensure that notifications are sent at critical steps in the asset management process. You can tailor these escalations to suit the needs of your data center, or create new ones. You can open an escalation to view the specific conditions that trigger it. An escalation is a process-specific item that supports a particular business processes. - Actions
You can use actions to create tasks that will be completed automatically at a specified step in asset management. An automated task can create a new Maximo object or record; change the value of a field in a record; kick off a workflow that runs in the background; instruct a workflow to perform an operation at a specified time in the asset management process, and so on. An action is a process-specific item that supports a particular business processes. - Communication templates
Communication templates enable you to standardize frequently used e-mail communications (also known as notifications). You can also use communication templates to create e-mail notifications for use with the automated workflow and escalation processes. A communication template is a process-specific item that supports a particular business processes. - Queries
Queries enable you to quickly list a subset of assets in the Assets application. For example, you can list all of the approved purchase requests, all of the deployed assets, and so on. Queries are also used to populate result set portlets in a start center. For example, you can specify that the "All deployed assets" query will list all deployed assets in one of your result set portlets.
