Managing licenses
Follow these procedures to do things like search for a license based on your chosen criteria, change the status of a license, delete or cancel a license, or create a license report.
- Allocating licenses
Follow these procedures to allocate license capacity to locations, computer assets, partition assets, application users or general ledger (GL) accounts. You can allocate license capacity from the Licenses, Work Order Tracking, and Activities and Tasks applications. - Finding licenses using search criteria
Use the Licenses application to locate a particular license or group of licenses using available search criteria. You can search for licenses based on attributes such as the license name, platform, type, status, vendor, and more. You can also search for licenses based on the software associated with the license or on the license termination date. - Viewing purchase orders and requisitions associated with a license
Use the View Purchase Orders and Requisitions action to view a read-only list of purchase orders and requisitions associated with the currently displayed record. - Viewing contracts associated with a license
Use the View Contracts action to view a read-only list of contracts associated with the currently displayed record. Examples of contract types include purchase, lease/rental, warranty, and software. - Adding or viewing related licenses
Use the Licenses application to associate related licenses with a license record or to view a license related by transfer. - Adding software consumption data
Use the Licenses application to manually add consumption data records to the database. Software consumption data is information pertinent to measuring a software product's usage. This task provides a way to manually create and save that data for later evaluation. - Changing the status of a license
Use the Licenses application to change the status of one or more license records. A license can be in Requested, Draft, Active, Not Ready, Expired, or Canceled status. A license must be active before it can be considered to be in use. - Deleting or canceling a license
Use the Licenses application to delete a license record or change its status to Canceled. - Transferring a license
Use the Licenses application to transfer one or more licenses from one organization to another. License capacity can also be transferred. - Running a license use report
Use the Licenses application to run one or more reports that compare license record information to deployed asset data obtained through discovery. The comparison data provided in the reports indicate areas for corrective action and help clarify your state of audit-readiness.
