Adding or viewing related licenses

Use the Licenses application to associate related licenses with a license record or to view a license related by transfer.

About this task

The decision about the kinds of related licenses to add to your license records depends on what license relationships, if any, your business chooses to track. The following kinds of related licenses can either be added manually, or are automatically displayed, on the Related Licenses tab:
  • Registration and aggregation licenses.

    Add these licenses manually if you want to associate them similarly to the way they are tracked for reporting to IBM®. For more information about registration and aggregation licenses, see the related reference topic that provides guidance for specifying license parameters; in particular, the table for ICA license types on mainframe platforms, and its associated table notes.

  • Licenses for the same software product as the current license, but licensed with a different metric or capacity unit.

    Add these licenses manually if you want to track them, and select Additional Metric from the Relationship field in the Related Licenses table to identify the relationship. For example, you could associate a software license for authorized users with another license for floating users, where both licenses are for the same software product.

  • Licenses that share a common license agreement with the current license.

    Add these licenses manually if you want to track them, and select Common Agreement from the Relationship field in the Related Licenses table to identify the relationship. For example, you could associate three licenses for the same software product, one license for processors, another for developer users, and yet another for business users.

  • Licenses that expired, were superseded, or were issued to add capacity.

    Add these licenses manually if you want to track expired or superseded licenses when they renew, or track new licenses that were obtained to add more license capacity (where adding capacity was possible only by issuing a new license). Select Renewal or Extension, respectively, from the Relationship field in the Related Licenses table to identify the relationship.

  • Transfer-related licenses.

    These licenses are automatically displayed. If the current license record is the new license, the original license associated with the transfer is displayed on the tab. If the current license record is the original, transferred license, the new license resulting from the transfer is displayed on the tab.

The steps for adding a related license follow.

Procedure

  1. On the navigation bar, click Go To > Assets > Licenses.
  2. In the Licenses application, open the license that you want to add related licenses to.
  3. On the Related Licenses tab, click Select Licenses to add related licenses.
  4. In the Select Licenses window, enter search criteria for the related licenses and click Refine.
  5. Select one or more related licenses from the license records listed in the Licenses section.
  6. Click OK. Your related licenses are displayed in the Related Licenses section of the Related Licenses tab.
  7. Optional: You can use the Relationship field in the Related Licenses table to identify the relationship between the related and current license. Click Select Value to make a selection.
  8. On the toolbar, click Save.
