You can manage precedence constraints from the Gantt view
to ensure that tasks are completed in a designated order.
About this task
A
precedence constraint is a relationship between
two work records that indicates when one task begins or ends in relation
to another. You can define precedence relationships between any tasks
that are siblings under the same parent work record. Some precedence
relationships are defined in the Changes application where the work
record originated. You can edit constraints or add new ones in the
Gantt view.
Procedure
- To insert a precedence constraint, click Insert
Constraint . The
cursor changes to a cross shape.
Note: To turn off the Insert
Constraint button without inserting a constraint, press
the Escape key.
- In the Gantt chart, click the first task in the constraint
relationship that you want to define, then click the second task.
- Right-click on the red line for the constraint that you
inserted. Select Edit Constraint.
- In the Edit Constraint window, select the constraint type
you want to create. Then, enter any lead or lag time you want to include
between tasks. For example, if you want to create a one hour delay
between when task 1 ends and task 2 begins, create a Finish to Start
relationship between task 1 and task 2, with a one hour lag.
- To delete a constraint, select the constraint in the Gantt
chart, and then click Delete Constraint.
- Click Save Schedule.
- To save your changes to the work records in the work management
applications, click Commit Changes from the toolbar.
