Scheduling a Change in the Gantt view

You can schedule a Change in the Gantt view in either of two ways: by invoking the critical path method (CPM) to automatically schedule all of the tasks, or by performing a variety of operations to manually schedule tasks. The automatic scheduling operation is successful only if task times can be found that do not violate any resource constraints.

Automatically scheduling a Change
You can schedule a Change automatically by using the critical path method (CPM) that is provided by the Graphical Scheduling application. If the CPM finds a schedule for all tasks that does not violate any resource constraints, you can save and commit the schedule, and your scheduling operation is completed. If no schedule is found automatically, you can manually schedule individual tasks.
Manually scheduling a Change
You can manually schedule a Change in the Graphical Scheduling application. Most often, you manually schedule a Change after the CPM has failed to find a scheduling solution automatically. To manually schedule a Change, you schedule tasks individually, and you can manually schedule a task that has been added to a Change. There are several ways in which you can perform manual scheduling.
Managing the number of tasks supported in the Resource Constraints view
The Resource Constraints view supports a maximum number of task work orders in a project. If this number is exceeded, the Resource Constraints view is disabled, along with the CPM resource constraints analysis. The default maximum number of tasks that are supported is 100. You can modify this maximum number by editing the pmgui.scheduler.constraints.maxrecords system property.
Managing precedence constraints in the Gantt view
You can manage precedence constraints from the Gantt view to ensure that tasks are completed in a designated order.
Refreshing schedule data
When you refresh the information in your schedule, you update the schedule with changes that have been made to the records in the applications where the records originated.

You can create multiple scenarios for upcoming work to choose the best scheduling option for your organization.
