Additional mapping configuration for customized classifications

You must configure custom OSLC resource mappings if you choose to modify the Best Practice CI and asset classifications or create new classifications.

About this task

Upon installation, Control Desk is configured to find UI Previews for CIs or assets that are classified with classifications in the Best Practice CI or asset classification models. See CI to OSLC Resource mapping table and Asset to OSLC Resource mapping table on the Control Desk product wiki for a list of mappings. If you choose to modify or configure new classifications, in either the Classifications application or Deployer's Workbench, the mappings from the classifications to the OSLC resource types must be modified.

Procedure

  1. Analyze your CI or asset classification model and determine which types of CIs and assets for which UI Previews are to be retrieved.
  2. For each classification identified in Step 1, determine which resource type it corresponds to in the CRTV.
  3. Review the identification rules for the resource type. The identification rules are listed under the Additional Requirements section of each resource that is listed in the OSLC Resource Definitions. Make sure that the properties that you choose for the resource satisfy at least one set of rules that are defined for that resource.
  4. For each classification, determine how its classification attributes (also called specifications) map to the properties defined for that resource type in the CRTV.
  5. Once this information has been determined, the mapping can be edited in the Classifications application by selecting the action, Configure OSLC Resource Mapping.
  6. To add a mapping for a classification:
    1. Click New Row under the Resource Type and Classifications table.
    2. Select the Classification to be mapped, and the OSLC resource type to map it to.
    3. For each property that needs to be mapped for this classification, click New Row under the Resource Properties and Attributes table.
    4. Select the OSLC Property to be mapped. Check the CRTV vocabulary specification for whether the property is of value type String or Resource. If the OSLC Property value type is a String, select the Classification Specification that it maps to. If the OSLC Property value type is a Resource, select the corresponding Relationship.
  7. Repeat the previous step for each CI or asset classification for which UI Previews are to be retrieved. Note that not all classifications can be mapped to an OSLC resource type. For example, there are many different types of operating system classifications for CIs, but there is no corresponding operating system type in the CRTV.
