Checklist for importing the software catalog directly from IBM

Use the checklist as a guideline when you download the software catalog that is provided by IBM and import the software catalog data into Control Desk.

1. Install and configure Control Desk. For instructions about how to install and configure Control Desk, see the Control Desk installation guide.

If installing the product on WebLogic Server, manually configure the JMS queues.

2. Determine whether to use continuous or sequential queues and configure the integration framework for the appropriate option. The steps required to configure components of the integration framework and the cron task for importing software catalog data vary depending on whether you decide to use continuous or sequential queues. Determine which queues to use and then select one of the following options:

3. Configure the cron task instance for imports and schedule the import. In the Cron Task application, configure the cron task instance for importing the software catalog and define a schedule for importing the data.

For information about configuring the cron task, see Configuring cron tasks for direct software catalog imports.

4. Download the software catalog data file from the IBM site. For instructions about how to download the file, see Downloading a software catalog file from IBM.
5. Activate the cron task that imports the software catalog data. For instructions about how to activate the cron task, see Activating the cron task.
