Configuration Management content
The built-in content for configuration management includes a number of artifacts that provide extensive predefined capabilities. For example, built-in configuration process classifications cover key processes; built-in job plans provide steps for completing the processes; built-in reports enable you to view information about configuration items and related details. The built-in content helps you ensure that you follow an ITIL-aligned configuration management process.
This built-in content is separate and distinct from the additional content that you can locate, download, and install using the ISM Content Installer application. The built-in content is carefully designed, tested, and supported, and it is recommended that you use this content to ensure that you adhere to best practices.
The content includes the following artifacts, all of which are described in detail in the topics that follow:
- Process classifications that define key configuration management processes.
- Configuration management roles, implemented as security groups, each of which has a set of associated access rights to each of the base product applications.
- Job plans that provide structured sets of implementation tasks to define how to carry out key processes.
- Actions, which you can use to create tasks that will be completed automatically at a specified step in a process.
- Reports that you can view to obtain information about configuration items and processes.
- Communication templates, which enable you to standardize frequently used email communications (also known as notifications).
