Modifying an existing lifecycle

This topic describes how you can modify the existing attributes of a lifecycle.

Before you begin

It might become necessary to modify some of the existing attributes of a lifecycle after it has already been applied to one or more CI classifications. To add a new state name to the existing states of a lifecycle or to change existing transitions between states review the following tasks:

To add a new state to the existing states of a lifecycle, follow these steps:

Procedure

  1. Click GoTo > IT infrastructure > Configuration items > CI Lifecycles from the drop down menu.
  2. Select the existing lifecycle to which you want to add a state.
  3. Click New Lifecycle State. The Lifecycle State Details table appears underneath the States table
  4. Select a state from the State drop down menu.
  5. Select the Is protected? check box if you want to create a protected state.
  6. Select the Is Default? check box if you want this state to be the default. There can be only one default state per lifecycle.
  7. Optional: Add a description to the Description field for the state.
  8. Repeat this task until you have defined all the desired states.
  9. After you have added new states, define the permitted transitions from each state.

Changing the properties of an existing state

Procedure

  1. Click GoTo > IT infrastructure > CI Lifecycles.
  2. Select the existing lifecycle that contains the state whose properties you want to change.
  3. Click the name of the state that you want to modify. The Lifecycle State Details panel appears below the list of states.
  4. Modify any properties of the selected state.
  5. The Transitions From panel appears below the lifecycle state details and lists the other states in this CI lifecycle to which transitions are defined from the current state. You can add a new transition or delete an existing one.
  6. Click the Save icon to save the modified lifecycle. A message reading, Record has been saved appears at the top of the screen.
