Assigning customers to actual CIs manually

You can associate a CI with one or more customers in the Actual Configuration Items application.

About this task

When actual configuration items are imported, they are not associated with a customer. You must have a way of knowing which actual CIs belong to which customers. To associate top-level actual CIs with a customer, follow these steps:

Procedure

  1. Click Go to > IT Infrastructure > Actual Configuration Items.
  2. Select the top-level actual CIs that you want to assign to a customer.
  3. Choose the Associate customer action and choose a customer.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to add more customers if desired.

What to do next

The top-level actual CIs will be associated with the selected customers. Child CIs are not associated at this time. When you promote the top-level actual CI to create authorized CIs, the customer assignments will be copied to the authorized CIs. At the same time, the customer assignments will be copied to all the related actual CIs that have no customer associations. This copying of customer associations happens only the first time you promote an actual CI; if you promote it again, the associations are not copied.

Note: Customers will be copied to child Actual CIs that do not already have a customer even during update promotion (based on the setting of the maxvar). It is only the copy from the Actual CI to the CI that only occurs when the CI is first created, that is, on the initial promotion.

You can control whether the related actual CIs are assigned to the selected customer, or customers, during promotion; see the topic below for details.
