Running the impact analysis engine

The workflow that you use to direct a change automatically runs the impact analysis engine if the corresponding action is in the workflow. This occurs after all of the implementation tasks are created and targets have been specified for the tasks. The best practice PMCHGMAIN1 workflow, which is provided in this product for advanced changes, includes an action to run the impact analysis engine.

About this task

If you do not use a workflow to automatically invoke the impact analysis engine, or if you want to run an automated impact analysis before or after the point in the process when the workflow does so, you can run the engine manually. To do so, you use application actions; for more information, see "Calculating impacts manually."

You can manually instruct the engine to calculate impacts of individual tasks or individual target CIs. In addition, you can run the engine early in the Change process, before the assessment phase begins, to preview the scope of impacts that you can expect from a proposed Change.
