Planning licenses for activities

In the Activities and Tasks application, you can add software license requirements when you plan resources for activities.

About this task

When the activity is approved, a reservation is created for the license capacity requested, and the quantity of available license capacity is recalculated to subtract the reserved license capacity.

The following instructions explain how to plan license resources for activities.

Procedure

Display the activity for which you want to plan licenses.
On the Licenses subtab on the Resources tab, click New Row.
In the License field, specify a license.
In the Requested Capacity field, specify the amount of capacity required.
In the Required Date field, specify the date on which the license capacity must be available.
In the Line Cost field, specify the cost of the license.
To plan an item for a specific task, specify a task in the Task field.
Enter or modify data in the other fields as needed.
Save the activity, or click New Row to plan other licenses for the activity.

Results

When the activity is approved, the Requested Capacity and Available Capacity fields in the Licenses application are updated to account for the reserved license capacity. The Requested Capacity field displays the total quantity of license capacity reserved, including this reservation and any other reservations for the license. The Available Capacity field displays the quantity of license capacity that is available for use. To calculate the available capacity, all license capacity that is allocated or reserved is subtracted from the total capacity of the license.

When an activity is completed, canceled, or closed, all license reservations associated with the activity are deleted, and capacity is recalculated.
