Managing the software catalog

Follow these procedures to do things like add new catalog records to the Maximo® database (to establish software naming conventions), manage software names through the use of conversion variants, find and reconcile unreviewed catalog records (to ensure software naming consistency), and delete catalog records from the Maximo database.

Adding software to the catalog manually
Use the Software Catalog application to manually add catalog records to the Maximo database for software data that did not originate from Asset Discovery for z/OS®.
Defining conversion variants
Use the Software Catalog application to manage the names of discovered software in the Maximo database through the use of conversion variants. A conversion variant is simply an alias of the preferred software name. The names of software that originated from Asset Discovery for z/OS must be managed in that application.
Locating unreviewed software for naming consistency
Use the Software Catalog application to find any unreviewed software in the current software catalog that was imported from external discovery tools. You need to reconcile each unreviewed software catalog record with its various software releases and versions, to ensure that the preferred, or target, software name is used consistently for all of them.
Updating the same Details attributes for multiple software catalog records
Use the Software Catalog application to update, with a single action, several common attributes for all software the catalog records selected in a list.
Defining product and component relationships in a software bundle
Use the Software Catalog application to manually define the relationships among products and components in a software bundle that might or might not be deployed. This task allows businesses that use discovery tools other than Asset Discovery for z/OS to define the representation of a bundle.
Defining software hierarchies
Use the Software Catalog application to define the hierarchy for a particular software product. This task allows businesses that use discovery tools other than Asset Discovery for z/OS to manually define hierarchical relationships like the ones that are imported from those products.
Deleting software from the catalog
Use the Software Catalog application to delete catalog records from the Maximo database. Catalog records define software products and components that can be used in software discovery and inventory, and in Control Desk applications.
