New in BIRT reporting

IBM® Control Desk 7.6 uses BIRT 4.3.1 and many new features that target performance, administration, and configurability are available.

Multiple new features target performance

The report cancellation process is enhanced so that reports can be canceled regardless of the stage of report processing that they are in. 7.6 also includes configurable stop limits, which evaluate all the records in a report hierarchy and prevent massive reports from running. Additionally, report escalations are introduced to notify administrators of long running reports so that the administrator can quickly circumvent any potential performance problems. New configuration options allow for increased flexibility

For clients using a separate report server, report processess run from the BIRT Report Only Server (BROS) if it is configured. Two new .xls file options are available for report emailing to reduce file size and enable graph images. Also, in 7.6, you can specify the following features:
  • Which export file options are available in the report viewer.
  • Whether hyperlinks are available on exported report file.
  • The number of columns that are displayed on an individual request page.

Enhancements to the Report Administration application make the task of managing reports easier

Multiple features are added to the Report Administration application to include increased information in log files and on report failures. Dialog boxes are consolidated for setting report limits for security groups, and a new action is added for exporting individual report design files. The generation of localized request pages is also simplified.
