Opening the Graphical Scheduling application

You can open the Graphical Scheduling application in two ways: by launching directly from the Schedule tab of a Change that you are scheduling, or by selecting the application from the Go To menu. When you launch directly from the Change, the Graphical Scheduling application is automatically populated with information that is needed to identify the Change. When you open the Graphical Scheduling application from the Go To menu, you supply this information.

About this task

After you open the Graphical Scheduling application, you supply all of the information that is needed to create a Graphical Scheduling project. After you create the project, you can perform the operations that are required to schedule the tasks.

Launching from the Changes application

This method of opening the Graphical Scheduling application is the most convenient way to start the process of scheduling an individual Change.

Procedure

  1. Open the Schedule tab of the Change that you are scheduling.
  2. Click Select Value beside the Scheduler Project field, and select Create a Project Schedule to launch the Graphical Scheduling application.

The Graphical Scheduling application opens. The Work Queries section populated with information that is needed to locate this Change: the WOCHANGE data source, indicating that the schedule is for a Change work order; the work order number (wonum) for the Change work order; the site ID, if applicable; and so on.

Returning to the Change

At any time, you can return to the Change from which you launched to the Graphical Scheduling application.

About this task

Depending on whether you want to display the name of the schedule in the Schedule tab of the Changes application, do one of the following to return to the Change:
  • To display the name of the Graphical Scheduling project in the Changes application when you return, click Return With Value in the top margin of the Graphical Scheduling application window. You are asked whether you want to save any changes that you have made. Answer Yes to ensure that your changes are in the Graphical Scheduling project the next time you open it. The Schedule tab opens in the Changes application, with the name of your schedule displayed in the Scheduler Project field.
  • To return to the Changes application without bringing over the name of the schedule, click Return in the top margin of the Graphical Scheduling application window. You are asked whether you want to save any changes that you have made. Answer Yes to ensure that your changes are in the Graphical Scheduling project the next time you open it. The Schedule tab opens in the Changes application. The name that you have assigned to the schedule is not displayed in the Scheduler Project field.
Note: When you launch to the Graphical Scheduling application for the first time from a Change that you are scheduling, commit the scheduled dates back to the Change, and then select Return With Value, you are unable to save the Change from within the Changes application. This occurs because the dates of the Change have changed, and the new information conflicts with the information in the current Change record.

To ensure that you can save the Change with the new dates, select Return to return to the Changes application. The Scheduler Project field in the Change record is blank. Leave and reenter the Change record. After you reenter the Change, you manually select the project using the Select Value option in the Scheduler Project field, and the name of the project is then displayed.

Launching from the Change to a named schedule

After you have supplied a name for a schedule in the Graphical Scheduling application, you can return at any time to this schedule from the Change. To do so, click Select value beside Scheduler Project in the Schedule tab for the Change, and select Go to Scheduler.

Opening Graphical Scheduling from the Go To menu

Use this method to create a project if, for example, you want to schedule multiple work orders, such as regular batch updates, in a single Graphical Scheduling project.

Procedure

Click Go To > Planning and Scheduling > Graphical Scheduling.
