Tasks can be created at any time during the release process.
When you create a release, you typically create a sequence of tasks
that is sufficient to define the overall structure of the release
work plan. Tasks are defined in greater detail during the Plan Rollout
phase, when a task is created for each deployment at each site that
is involved in a release. Related tasks can be grouped in activities
as a way to efficiently organize the release work plan.
About this task
To create a task, perform the following steps:
Procedure
- Open the Plans tab in one of the following records:
- The release for which you want to create the task
- The Activity in which you want to place the task
- Click New Row in the Tasks section.
- Assign a classification in the Classification field.
For more information, see "Task classifications."
Depending
on the classification you specify, additional attributes might be
associated with the task. For example, the SWDIST (Distribute software)
task has the associated SWPKG attribute; the SWPKG attribute provides
fields for specifying the package to be distributed. The classification
attributes that are generated are located in record for the task in
the Activities and Tasks application.
If you want to specify
information for classification attributes, you must do so in the Activities
and Tasks application. Classification attribute information can also
be supplied later, by the task owner. When the task owner accepts
the task, he is launched to the task in the Activities and Tasks application
and can view, supply, or modify classification attributes at that time.
- If the task will involve configuration items (CIs) as sources
or targets, or if it will impact one or more CIs, check Implementation
task.
- Fill in other fields in the section as needed to define
the task you are creating, and click Save to save the task.
What to do next
You can create two specialized kinds of tasks: an
automated task,
which completes automatically at a specified point in the process;
or a task that contains an
assisted workflow. The following
two topics provide information about creating these specialized tasks.
