Release types
In release management, each release has an optional release type. A release type is used to indicate the overall scope of the release. The creator of a release specifies a type for the release.
If you installed sample data when you installed the product, you have a set of predefined release types. You can edit these predefined types, remove them, or augment them with new types as needed.
The following table illustrates how the predefined release types might be used for the kinds of releases that are required in a typical IT environment:
Predefined release type | Purpose of release |
---|---|
FULL | Deploy a complete software package in which all components are built, tested, distributed, and implemented together |
DELTA | Release an updated feature to a deployed software package |
PKG | Deploy a set of full and delta releases together, in order to update all affected systems at the same time |
