Viewing event details for CIs in the CI application

You can access Tivoli® Netcool/OMNIbus event details for a configuration item by viewing it in the Configuration Items application.

About this task

There are several places in the CI application where you can view event details, depending on the properties that the administrator enables.

Events display for a CI if the following conditions are met:
  1. The administrator enables at least one of the properties that display CIs in the CI application.
  2. The classification for the CI is mapped to an EVENT resource type.

Procedure

  1. Go to IT Infrastructure > Configuration Items.
  2. Locate and open the CI that you want to view event details for.
  3. Do the following steps to view event details on the CI Summary tab of the CI application.
    1. Under the Classification fields of the CI Summary tab, select View Federated Details. The Federated Details dialog displays resource links for events that are related to the CI.
Note: If you configured UI Previews for CIs with products such as Tivoli Monitoring or TADDM, entries for UI preview data for the CI from those products might also display.
    2. Click the button next to an event in the Federated Details dialog to view the data. A Related Resource Data dialog displays Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus event details for the CI.
    3. Click OK to return to the Federated Details dialog.
    4. Repeat the steps to view other events for the CI, or click X to close the Federated Details dialog.
  4. Do the following steps to view event details on the CI Topology tab of the CI application.
    1. Go to the CI Topology tab.
    2. In the Filter section, select the Show Events? check box.
Note: When you enable the Show Events? check box, Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus events that are associated with the CI are queried for details. Any other nodes in the topology that have a mapping to the EVENT resource type are also queried. This process can be resource-intensive if a large amount of data is queried. Clear the check box when you are not viewing events for your CI.
    3. If a caution tooltip is displayed on the CI, hover over it. The tooltip displays if at least one incident or event exists for the CI.
      • If events exist for the CI, a pop-up window displays the number of events that are associated with the CI when you hover over it.
      • In cases where a CI has incidents, the window also displays the incidents.
Note: If you expect to see the tooltip on hover but do not, reposition the CI so that it is not close to the edge of the pane.
    4. Right-click the CI and select View Federated Details. Resource links to the events display in the Federated Details dialog.
    5. Click the button next to an event in the Federated Details dialog to view the event details. A Related Resource Data dialog displays Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus event details for the CI.
You can hover over the caution decorator or right-click on other nodes in the topology to see whether event data exists for them.
