Action offering

An action offering is used when an organization wants to integrate existing services or applications into the Service Catalog. For example, an action offering for "Reset Password" can be used to launch the URL for the organization's intranet password management tool.

When you select an action offering in the Offering Catalog, an offering dialog presents the offering information. The offering dialog will also allow you to input any information required by the offering (as defined by the offering attributes) to fulfill the offering.

The service application associated with an action offering can be of several types:

External URLs are designated byControl Desk launch-in-context entries.

Alternate Control Desk applications may be invoked either via Control Desk Launch-in-Context entries (using relative URL addressing) or via Control Desk workflows.

Standalone executables can be invoked via Control Desk workflows.

Action offerings can pass information, including attribute information, to a launched service.

When an action offering is executed, a catalog request and service request will be automatically opened and closed so that it can be used for accountability purposes.
