License deployment offerings
IBM® Control Desk provides service offerings that you can use to deploy licensed software packages to one or more assets.
Deploy Licensed Software to Multiple Assets offering
This offering allows you to deploy licensed software to one or more assets.
When you select this offering, in the Software Name look-up field, specify the software to deploy, then select the asset(s) that require the software. Assets should be in Operating or Active status and must belong to the hierarchy of the top-level IT asset class. The look-up lists only software with a license associated. The site id of the asset should be associated with the organization of the license for the software.
If the software is associated with more than one license, specify a default license for that software; otherwise, the license cannot be used for deploying the software. A default license can be specified in the Default License field on the Licenses tab.
When you click Submit Request on the offering, a workflow checks whether enough licenses are available. If enough licenses are available, a license is reserved for each asset, and the IBM Endpoint Manager action to deploy the software is initiated. If there are not enough licenses available, an inbox assignment is created to procure more licenses. It is assigned to the license administrator person group (IEMLICM). By default, maxadmin user is a member of the IEMLICM person group.
The escalation periodically checks the status of the action and updates the status. To view information about the deployment status, open the service request and select the Deployment Status tab in the View Service Request window. You can also view status information on the Log tab.
If there are problems with the software deployment, for example, the status of deployment cannot be checked or a license cannot be allocated, an Inbox assignment is created for the task owner group (IEMTSKGR). By default, maxadmin user is a member of that group also.
Deploy Multiple Licensed Software to a Single Asset offering
This offering allows you to deploy one or more licensed software packages to a single asset. When you select this offering, in the Asset field, specify the asset that requires the software to be deployed, then click Select to choose one or more software packages. Assets should be in Operating or Active status and must belong to the hierarchy of the top-level IT asset class. The site id of the asset should be associated with the organization of the license for the software.
If the software is associated with more than one license, specify a default license for that software; otherwise, license cannot be used for deploying the software. A default license can be specified in the Default License field on the Licenses tab.
When the offering is submitted, a workflow checks whether enough licenses available. If enough licenses are available, a license is reserved for the asset, and the IBM Endpoint Manager action to deploy the software is initiated. If there are not enough licenses available, an inbox assignment is created to procure more licenses. It is assigned to the license administrator person group (IEMLICM).
The escalation periodically checks the status of the action and updates the status. The deployment status can be viewed in the Deployment Status tab on the service request.
Re-image an asset
This offering is used to re-image an asset with the licensed software that was allocated to the asset before re-imaging.
When you select this offering, in the Asset field, specify the asset that needs to be re-imaged, and click Submit Request.
A workflow checks for the software licenses that were allocated to the selected asset and redeploys the software to the asset using IBM Endpoint Manager.
No Inbox assignment is created because the license is already allocated to the asset. The status of the deployment is updated on the Deployment Status tab on the service request.
