IT asset initialization

The asset initialization process is designed to establish a baseline of authorized IT asset data by leveraging data collected from deployed assets. You use the IT asset initialization process only to import IT asset data and create new IT assets.

Asset initialization is a highly specialized function that requires user configuration. If you attempt to use the mapping for asset initialization without customizing it, no asset records are created. The default settings provided are based on demo data for the Maximo® database and are provided only as a point of departure.

To create IT assets from deployed asset data, you must customize the implementation in the following ways:

• In Control Desk, define how to structure the data that you import into Assets. The structure is defined by creating organizations, sites, classifications, item set, and other attributes that are required for IT asset management.
• In Integration Composer, customize the properties files for asset initialization and the mapping expressions in the IT asset initialization mapping. Specify computer and software (Spare Parts) data based on the way that your enterprise manages computers and software.
