Configuration for IBM Endpoint Manager 9.0 adapter

Control Desk includes an Integration Composer adapter for IBM® Endpoint Manager 9.0. You can configure IBM Endpoint Manager so that its data is imported directly into Control Desk by using Integration Composer with the IBM Endpoint Manager 9.0 adapter.

About this task

Most computer properties that the IBM Endpoint Manager 9.0 Integration Composer adapter depends on are in the “BES Inventory and License” site. The exception is the Virtual Machines property of the Virtual Machine Host Information analysis of the Virtual Endpoint Manager site. Mobile device properties are obtained from the "Mobile Device Management" site.

Relevant analyses of these sites must be globally activated before their properties become available to be added and imported into IBM Endpoint Manager. The exception to this requirement is Action Site, where the analyses are activated automatically.

Procedure overview:
  1. Ensure that Integration Composer is installed.
  2. Ensure that IBM Endpoint Manager 9.0 is installed.
  3. Enable the sites that you want.
  4. Activate the site analyses.

Procedure

  1. Open the Endpoint Manager console with a Master Operator account.
  2. From the menu, select Go > BigFix Management.
  3. In the console navigator, select the License Overview dashboard.
  4. In the BigFix License Overview dashboard, go to the Lifecycle Management section.
  5. Under Available Sites, click Enable next to sites that have the type of information you want.
    If: Enable:
If you want Hardware and OS-based information Enable the BES Inventory and License site.
If you want Mobile device information Enable the Mobile Device Management site.
If you have virtual machines and want their relationship to their host computers to be viewed and managed in Control Desk Enable the Virtual Endpoint Manager site.

Then, run the Fixlet ID 71 (Virtual Machine Probe) to get "Virtual Machines" information.

To obtain ESX information, also enable Patches for ESX site.

To obtain ESXi information, also enable Patches for ESXi site. Install the BigFix Relay, then install the BES Server Plugin Service, and deploy the Management Extender for VMware vCenter.

  6. For all the sites you enabled in the previous step, you must activate their analyses and subscribe the computers to the sites. Activate an analysis by using these steps:
    1. From the menu, select Go > All Content.
    2. In the console navigator, go to Analyses > By Site, and select a site.
    3. In the Analyses panel, select the analysis, then click Activate in the bottom panel. Repeat this step for all of the analyses. If you have a large environment, it might take several minutes to process. You can check the status of the collection by selecting in the navigator, Analyses > By Site > <the site you want to check> > By Status > Activate Globally. In the Analyses panel, check the Results tab.
    4. To subscribe the computers, select Go > All Content.
    5. In the console navigator, select Sites > External sites.
  7. Click one of the sites you enabled. On the right panel, go to Computer Subscriptions and select All Computers.
  8. Endpoint Manager manages properties that are based on platform. These analyses are needed for each platform that is managed.
Note: The analyses of a platform are not needed if the platform is not managed.

When a property is added to Endpoint Manager, you can name it any name that you prefer. Control Desk can link it to the Integration Composer property name by using its site, analysis, and property ids.

The Endpoint Manager 9.0 adapter tries to identify the relationship of virtual machines and their host machines. In order to accomplish that you must perform all the ESX and ESXi configurations described in the previous steps. And the following properties must be added:
    • For ESX platforms:
      • “Hypervisor Host Information” property of the “Hypervisor Host Information” analysis of the “Inventory and License” site.
      • “Virtual ID of VM Guests” property of the “Virtual Machine Guest Information” analysis of the “Inventory and License” site.
    • For ESXi platforms:
      • "Virtual Machines” property of the “Virtual Machine Host Information” analysis of the “Virtual Endpoint Manager” site.
