Adding a Configuration Item field to the assets user interface

Use the Application Designer application to add a Configuration Item field to the Assets application. Performing this task allows you to see a configuration item that is associated with an asset record in the Assets application.

About this task

The default installation of Control Desk does not display configuration item data in the Assets application. To view a configuration item that is associated with an asset in the Assets application, use the Application Designer application to add a Configuration Item field to the Assets application. The following procedure adds a read-only Configuration Item field to the Details section on the Asset tab in the Assets application.

Complete the following steps to add a Configuration Item field to the Assets application.

Procedure

  1. On the navigation bar, click Go To > System Configuration > Platform Configuration > Application Designer.
  2. On the Applications tab, select ASSET for the Assets application.
  3. On the Workspace tab, select the Asset subtab.
  4. On the Asset subtab, select the Details section and click Control Palette.
  5. Drag the Multipart Textbox icon from the Control Palette window to the location in the Details section where you want the new field.
  6. Close the Control Palette window.
  7. Right click the Multipart Textbox that you added and select Properties.
  8. In the Multipart Textbox Properties window, specify values in the following fields as indicated:
    Option Description
    Label Configuration Item
    Attribute CI.CINUM
    Menu Type CI
    Lookup CI
    Input Mode Readonly
    Go To Applications CI
    Attribute for Part 2 CI.DESCRIPTION
    Input Mode for Part 2 Readonly
  9. Close the Multipart Textbox Properties window.
  10. Click Save Application Definition.

What to do next

Go to the Assets application and check that the Configuration Item field is displayed in the Details section on the Asset tab.
