Status of configuration items

You can change the status of configuration item records to suit your business needs.

You use the Change Status action to change the status of configuration items. A configuration item can have these statuses:

• Not ready - When you create a configuration item, it has a status of not ready.
• Operating - This status indicates that the configuration item is currently being used.
• Decommissioned - Configuration items that have been decommissioned cannot be used in new records. You can access a decommissioned configuration item only in the Configuration Items application. Decommissioned configuration items are not displayed in Select Value dialog boxes.

You configure the list of applicable statuses for a configuration item in the CI Lifecycle application.
