Configuration item topology
When you are viewing a single configuration item (CI) in the Configuration Items application, you can use the Topology sub-tab to view a graphical representation of the CI and its relationships with other CIs.
The Topology sub-tab shows a main view, containing a graphical representation of the CI and its relationships with other CIs, and control areas on the right side. The CI you were viewing when you opened the Topology sub-tab is displayed with an extra border around it. You can zoom in and out and perform other manipulations using the row of controls at the top of the topology view.
- Show Relationships
- The types of relationships to include in the view. The list shows all the relationship types that exist between nodes in the diagram. You can exclude relationship types if you want to see only certain types. The lines between nodes that do not have one of the relationships you have included will be grayed out.
- Show Classifications
- The types of CIs to include in the view. The default is all types. You can choose to exclude some types if you do not want to see them. CIs of the excluded types will not appear in the diagram.
- Breadth
- The number of levels of connection to show in the view. The default is one, meaning that only CIs with a direct relationship to the viewed CI are shown. If you set the value to two, CIs that are related to CIs that are directly related to the viewed CI will be shown. The initial breadth and maximum breadth are contained in the system properties X and Y.
The upper right portion of the screen contains a miniature view of the topology map. You can use it to control the larger view.
You can hover over a node in the topology view to see its description and status. To see more properties, right-click the node and choose CI information to open a dialog showing more CI properties. The dialog also shows any open process requests that list that CI as a target. You can hover over a link in the topology view to see the relationships that exist between the two connected nodes.
If the node representing a CI shows a wrench icon in the top central portion of the icon, tasks that are part of changes or other work orders that target that CI have been scheduled. To see the work items, click
.- Detail view
- This view shows all related CIs of all types.
- Business view
- This view shows a subset of all CI types. The types that are shown are those that have been designated for inclusion in this view by checking the X check box for this CI type in the Classifications application.
