Actual configuration items
Actual configuration items are read-only data records that reflect the discovered components of your IT infrastructure.
- Viewing a CI topology for actual configuration items
When you are viewing a single actual configuration item (CI) in the Configuration Items application, you can use the Topology subtab to view a graphical representation of the CI and its relationships with other CIs. - Configuring the topology view
An administrator can configure several aspects of the topology view that depicts configuration items (CIs) and their relationships. You can set the initial and maximum breadth of CI relationships that are shown; specify the icon that represents a CI classification; specify whether a CI of a given classification is displayed in the business view; and configure the maximum number of nodes that are shown in the topology. - Assigning customers to actual CIs
When actual configuration items (CIs) are imported, they are not associated with a customer. You can assign customers to actual CIs. - Promotion of actual CIs to authorized CIs
In Control Desk, you can create authorized configuration items (CIs) from the actual CIs in your environment. This process is called promotion. - Launching to the TADDM interface
To view a graphical representation of the application, business application, or physical relationships of actual configuration items, you can view the application topology for an actual configuration item in the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager (TADDM) interface. - Operational management products
In the Actual Configuration Items application, operational management products are associated with actual configuration items. Operational management products are in the information technology environment that supplies information about configuration items to the discovery process. - Deletion of actual configuration items
You cannot delete an actual configuration item from the Control Desk user interface, but actual CIs that are deleted from TADDM can be deleted from the Maximo® database. - Authorized CIs associated with deleted actual CIs
When an actual CI is deleted, the associated CI, if any, is not deleted. You must decide how to process these authorized CIs.
