You can test impact analysis rules when you are creating
or modifying a rule and want to make sure that the rule works as intended.
For example, you might have run the impact analysis engine, and it
did not identify a known impact that is based on your CMDB settings.
You can create a rule to ensure that the impact is identified, or
modify the rule that is used for this relationship. Testing the rule
ensures that the impact is correctly identified.
About this task
Perform the following steps to test a new rule:
Procedure
- In the Test Impact Analysis Rules section, click beside the CINUM ID field, and select
a CI for which you want to calculate impacts when the CI goes offline.
- Click Test Rules. The impact analysis engine runs
the rules to determine where the matches are, so that you can see
whether the specified aspect of the rule matched as intended. The
Relationships section displays a list of all of the relationships
that contain the specified CI.
After you run the test,
the following information is displayed:
- The Relationships section displays a list of all of the relationships
that contain the test CI. For each relationship in the list, the source
CI, the relationship name, and the target CI are displayed.
- When you select a relationship in the Relationship section, the
Impact Details section displays a row for each rule that applies to
the relationship. For an impact to be identified, all of the data
values in a rule, including the SOURCE value, the TARGET value, and
any conditions that are defined for the rule, must match. An impact
might or might not have been identified.
