Working with IT assets
Control Desk provides various features for IT asset management.
- Creating IT assets
You create an IT asset very much like you create other assets. However, there are some additional features available for IT assets. - Specifying refresh cycles for IT assets
In the Assets application you can specify technology refresh dates for IT assets. You can use the technology refresh data to determine what assets are eligible for replacement. - Modifying refresh cycles for IT assets
If changes occur that require modifications to the original refresh cycle that you specified for an IT asset, you can change the dates and other information about the replacement plans. - Specifying end-of-life details for IT assets
In the Assets application, you can specify how you disposed of IT assets at the end of their life cycle. - Modifying end-of-life details for IT assets
If changes occur that require modifications to the original end-of-life information that you specified for an IT asset, you can update the data about how you disposed of the asset. - Associating users, custodians, and groups with IT assets
You can associate a person with an asset as a custodian, as a user, or as both. You can also associate groups with assets. A user is someone who uses the asset. A custodian is someone responsible for the care of the asset. An asset can have multiple users, custodians, or groups. - Managing software license allocations
If you want to refresh or retire an IT asset, use the Manage Software License Allocations action to remove software license allocations from the asset before you retire it or reassign it. You can remove one or more software license allocations. - Managing software license allocations for asset swaps
You use the Assets application to replace one asset with another asset and to specify a location for the asset that you replace. You can swap any number of assets at once. When you replace one asset with another one, use the features in the Manage Software License Allocations section in the Swap Assets window to transfer license allocations from the original asset to the replacing asset or to remove a license from the original asset. - Moving or modifying IT assets
You can move an asset from a non-inventory location to another non-inventory location or to a storeroom. You can move assets from your current site to another site within your organization or to a site in a different organization. You can also make changes to assets, including modifying users and custodians, groups, or attributes of the asset. - Reviewing asset-CI linking results for a single asset
Use a view action in the Assets application to see key information about the asset-CI linking process for a particular linked asset, including the link date, the user who initiated the linking, the linking method, and, if applicable, the link rule that was used. - Finding IT assets associated with contracts
Use the Advanced Search feature in the Assets application to search for IT assets that are associated with a contract. - Finding IT assets associated with purchase orders
Use the Advanced Search feature in the Assets application to search for IT assets that are associated with a purchase order.
