Software Catalog and customer data

Customer data is provided in software catalog records for use by service providers.

In the Software Catalog application, the table on the Deployed Software tab shows deployment information about the software product described by the currently displayed software catalog record. Deployment records are shown only for the main software product, not for related child products.

In the table list, one row is displayed for each installed software instance of the current software product. A Customer field is included on each displayed row. The customer is the one associated with the deployed partition record, if the software is on a computer partition, or with the deployed computer record, if the software is on a computer but not on a partition.

The service provider can filter the installed instances in the table list by customer, and go to the Customers (SP) application to select a customer or find more information about a customer.

User restrictions

Customers who use the Software Catalog application can only view or work with the information that they have received access permissions for. User restrictions are managed by the service provider's administrator, who can grant access permissions to service provider employees and customers by using the Security Groups (SP) application. Some examples of user restrictions follow.

In the software product list in the Deployed Software table, the Computer field does not display a value if the customer viewing the table row is not the customer associated with the computer. Even when the customer is associated with the partition where the software product is installed, the computer value is not displayed unless the customer is also associated with the computer for that partition.

When viewing a row or row details for a software product listed in the Deployed Software table, a customer who goes to the Customer field and clicks Detail Menu > Go To Customers (SP) can see only information about the customers he or she has access to (typically just the customer's own information). Similarly, a customer who goes to the Customer field and clicks Detail Menu > Select Value can view and select only the names of the customers he or she has access to.
